In the type area of the Turonian stage, « between Saumur and Montrichard », in outcrops running along the Loire and Cher rivers, the lower and a great part of the middle Turonian (Tm 1-2-3) were previously well defined with numerous ammonites. Nevertheless, the top of the middle Turonian (Tm 4) and the base of the upper Turonian did supply none or a little index species. Moreover, the greatest part of the upper Turonian is not represented due to a strong gap in the sedimentation. The collect of two index ammonites in the Tuffeau Jaune de Touraine provides new informations. Firstly, the finding in a quarry at Pont Boutard near Langeais (Indre-et-Loire) of Romaniceras mexicanum at the base of the « falun de Continvoir » - a sandy lateral faciès of the Tuffeau Jaune de Touraine – gives it a Tm 4 age. Secondly, the collect of Subprionocyclus bravaisianus in the Langeais hardground at the top of the Tuffeau Jaune de Touraine near Azay-le-Rideau, supports the « middle » upper Turonian age of the level.
