The top of the Pâtures Member (upper member of the Beaulieu Formation), and a large part of the Fiennes Member (lower member of the Ferques Formation), both Mid Frasnian and belonging to the middle asymmetricus conodont Zone (= punctate Zone) were momentarily observed, during the digging of a trench for the installation of new equipments on the site of the Stinkal Quarries, in Ferques (Pas-de-Calais). A level, rich in decalcified brachiopods, has been sampled near the top of the Pâtures Member, which is generally considered without fossils; it has yielded, in order of abundance, the species Cyrtospirifer syringothyriformis, Rigauxia acutosina, Comiotoechia barroisi and Spinatrypa ? sp. which are briefly discussed. The interest of the study of such temporary outcrops is emphasized.

Diversity of Strophomenid, Orthotetid and Orthid Brachiopods in the Uppermost Famennian (“Strunian”; Upper Devonian) of the Avesnois (Northern France)

In order to contribute to assessment of the aftermath of the Hangenberg Biological Crisis that took place at the top of the Famennian (Upper Devonian), the strophomenid, orthotetid and orthid brachiopods from the ‘Strunian’-aged Étrœungt Limestone Formation (Avesnois, northern France) are described. The Avesnois is the historical type area of the ‘Strunian’, traditionally considered as the last Famennian substage. Although they are sometimes abundant in the studied sections, their generic and specific diversity is very low in the Étrœungt Limestone Formation. Moreover, the majority of the species belong to long-ranging genera (Leptagonia, Schellwienella?, Schizophoria, Aulacella).
