      <link>https://www.peren-revues.fr/annales-sgn/888</link>
Exploitation of the Nord – Pas-de-Calais coal basin and geological discovery of the region have progressed all together, with mutual support all along the last 300 years. However, such an extracting activity induced direct and indirect impacts – through derived industries and subsequent demographic increase – onto ground and within underground. So, stopping extraction does not imply stopping of monitoring unavoidable underground movements (residual subsidence, underground waterways, watertable changes, gas migration risk). A specific department of the French Geological Survey (BRGM) is in charge of that work since the last exploitant liquidation. In addition, it is in charge of preserving, and increasing value of the technical archives useful to monitoring. As well as prospecting, aftermath coal management is also a scientific topic. </description>
