The snow of rewriting takes a pragmatic shape in the XIXth Nouvelle nouvelle, attributed to Philippe Vignier. From the texture of the fabliau De l’Enfant qui fut remis au soleil to that of L’Enfant de neige, the wife’s figure undergoes a new conception, subtly maculated. The story of the secrete fasson proposes a model of emotional intelligence similar to the one theorized by Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer (1990) – one that would fit in the socio-politic context of Burgundy. Without being a mirror for women, the text teaches its implicit addressees how to be discreet, how to lose suitably, how to achieve the politically correct in (extra-)conjugal matters of sexual relevance. In its attempt to inscribe the XIXth Nouvelle nouvelle in the “history of embodied emotions” initiated by Damien Boquet and Piroska Nagy (2011), our study focuses on the exploration of feminine orality and on its modern catechesis rooted in the Genesis, reinvented by the Jeu d’Adam and the fabliaux.
