D’une part, il figure parmi les rares textes littéraires contemporains qui ont donné lieu à plusieurs traductions chinoises quasi simultanées : en 1985 et 1986, un an après sa publication en France, on voit paraître en Chine six versions concurrentes du roman français. D’autre part, l’une de ces traductions, le Qingren de Wang Daoqian, a eu une profonde influence sur de jeunes auteurs chinois d’avant-garde des années 1980. Pour quelles raisons L’Amant a-t-il fait l’objet de si nombreuses traductions chinoises immédiatement après sa parution française ? Comment expliquer le succès du Qingren de Wang Daoqian auprès de l’avant-garde littéraire chinoise de l’époque ? C’est à ces deux questions que nous tentons de répondre dans cet article. In the history of literary translation in China in the 20th century, L’Amant by Marguerite Duras occupies a singular place. On the one hand, it is one of the few contemporary literary texts to have been translated into Chinese almost simultaneously. In 1985 and 1986, a year after its publication in France, six competing versions of the French novel appeared in China. On the other hand, one of these translations, Wang Daoqian’s Qingren, had a profound influence on young avant-garde Chinese writers of the 1980s. Why did so many Chinese translations of L’Amant appear immediately after its French publication? What accounts for the success of Wang Daoqian’s Qingren among the Chinese literary avant-garde of the time?
