      <link>https://www.peren-revues.fr/cahiersmargueriteduras/564</link>
This article presents a study of the genetic file of the screenplay for Moderato cantabile, written by Marguerite Duras and Gérard Jarlot for Peter Brook’s adaptation. Unanimously criticized, this film is both an initiation and a breakthrough in the history of Duras's relationship with cinema. Moderato cantabile was the first (and last) time Duras wrote the screenplay for a film adapted from one of her novels without directing it. Working with Brook was, in this regard, an important turning point, which could be formulated as follows: the 1960 adaptation was the one Duras liked least and the one that most prompted her to go behind the camera. Taking an interest in Peter Brook's film as a &quot;false adaptation&quot; therefore gives us a better understanding of what a &quot;true adaptation&quot; would be in Duras's eyes, which, at a time when cinema is thought of through adaptation, offers a way of looking at the beginnings of Durassian cinema. </description>
