<title>“Blind to it. Until you’re not”: Repetitions in Lament for Sheku Bayoh by Hannah Lavery</title>
      <link>http://www.peren-revues.fr/coupdetheatre/937</link>
<description>Hannah Lavery confronts the Scottish post-racial national myth with its construction and legacy through the voices of racialised people. In Lament for Sheku Bayoh the motif of repetition and re-iterability is key to the theme and structure of the play. It features in the use of verbatim aesthetic, relying on the recycling of real words; in the musical variations and echoes that puts rhythm into the performance; and in the inter-medial quality of the work that makes its reception duplicable. All three aspects serve the tragic narrative of the death of Sheku Bayoh, a black Scots engineer, killed by police force in 2015 and seek to create a space for change. </description>
