      <link>https://www.peren-revues.fr/demeter/2413</link>
This article examines one very important common place of the american art history of the early 1960’s : the New York social networks of happening (1959-1966) were fierce opponents to theatre. Going against this prejudice, we have chosen to enlighten the very motley collection of theatrophiliac discourses engaged by the artists of this network. In order to grasp the complex relations of the artists to the model of theater, we first examine the very diverses appropriations of the programs of John Cage, Jackson Pollock and Antonin Artaud - three figures who motivated a new sense of theater among the American artists of happenings. In a second time, we try to identify the general features of the different theatrophiliac positions of the New York network. Through this binocular, we delineate the image of an other theater : a theater of artists that feeds itself from the popular forms of the american theater, and more generally of the products of cultural industry, and that repel as far as possible the institutional field of theater - Broadway or its margins. </description>
