      <link>https://www.peren-revues.fr/lexique/1852</link>
<description>Naît-on néonyme ? Do neonyms emerge as such ? This microterminological study, focusing on the trajectories of two Bergerian neologisms in Sociology, examines the social dimension of neonymy (or terminological neology) in the humanities and social sciences. In line with the socioterminological project (Gaudin, 2003), it draws on textual terminology and the lexico‑semantics approach, as well as on sociological socioconstructivist frameworks to analyze the social conditions of the production and diffusion of neonyms. Firstly, all occurrences of two neologisms are extracted from a microcorpus consisting of three books by Peter L. Berger (1961, 1963; Berger &amp;amp; Luckmann, 1967 [1966]), covering a period of five years. Then their origin, their diffusion in their original disciplinary field, whether or not they ascend to the status of neonyms, and their translation is examined in the three Spanish and French versions of the 1963 book (transl. Galofre Llanos, 1967; transl. Feisthauer, 1973, transl. Merllié-Young &amp;amp; Merllié, 2014 [2006]), covering a period of over 60 years. Based on the results obtained through an interdisciplinary approach, we discuss neological creation in the humanities and social sciences and the level of consciousness implied in this act (Humbley, 2016; Sablayrolles, 2018). We then explore the nature and social functions of neonyms, and finally question the distinctions between “néonymie d’origine-d’appoint” (Rondeau, 1984) and “primary-secondary term formation” (Sager, 1990). In addition to exploring the possible contributions of a socioconstructivist approach to terminology, our study represents an application of this last discipline to the history of sciences and their vocabularies. </description>
