This article aims to demonstrate that a political reformulation of aesthetics emerged within Marxism as early as the 1920s. Despite certain differences, the writings of Benjamin and Gramsci can be considered mutually translatable within a comparative approach that specifically takes into account the dialogue these authors establish with Benedetto Croce. The main objective is to challenge a narrow conception of aesthetics that restricts its scope to the critique of works of art. A historical and political approach to the « sensible » thus emerges in the texts of Benjamin and Gramsci. By highlighting a comparison between Benjamin’s references to Croce, found in the epistemological Preface to The Origin of the German Tragic Drama, and Gramsci’s use of aesthetic concepts of Crocean origin in certain notes from the Prison Notebooks, it is possible to identify a similar use of aesthetics that appears to herald a new paradigm of the sensible.

This article examines the place that literature occupies in the Bergsonian philosophy. Starting from the observation of the indeterminacy of the time of creation which is revealed in the work of Kazantzaki, it aims to show how these two authors who come from different disciplines (philosophy and literature) share a similar intuition of reality; although individual, immaterial as intuition is without forms and unintelligible. However, their intention can be distinguished: the former wants the audience to understand, the latter wants them to feel. Whilst the writer tells of his irreducible and continuous effort through which he tries to grasp himself and to grasp reality, the Bergsonian concept of duration helps to understand the nature of this effort. On one hand, it echoes the divide between the created reality from the creating reality, and thus, the finiteness of the physical medium in relation to the infinitess of the sense, and, on the other hand, the necessary union between spirit and matter in order to be able to live and act.
