How is knowledge created? Can emotions emerging from a body in motion – and blended with an abundance of sensory perceptions and cognitive representations – enrich the practice of ethnographic fieldwork? This article aims to shed light on the unwavering link between the adoption of a sensory approach to our research environments, the emotions ensuing from this embodied encounter, and the emergence of new forms of action and knowledge during fieldwork. In order to do this, I will focus on a rare moment in the investigation, namely an improvised three-kilometer walk that I did during my first ethnographic research in the Galilee between the “Arab” city of Nazareth and the “Jewish” city of Nof HaGalil. The sensorimotor and emotional disruption caused by this walk caused cognitive reverberations that allowed me to question my own practices of bodily immersion in space, and to consider some aspects of my research in a new light.

"What I like about writing is that we know where we start from but never where we arrive" says the writer2. We will analyze the short story "La ronde" (La ronde et autres nouvelles, 1982) in a context of plural readings related to the topic of wandering. This study will examine the hypothesis that deepening an understanding of the multiple dimensions of wandering in the text would not only grasp its implications but also penetrate how the writing works. The psychic disorder of the characters, the violence, duality, emptiness, and disturbed relationships are at the origin of fluctuating identities of the characters who operate in the urban supermodern context, as defined by Marc Augé. The social criticism is obvious through the all-powerful machines, the wanderings rather than initiation, and the representation of a city-hell that takes shape and strength through reality effects. The narration, in many respects, is a double of the story, following its movements, displacements in fragmented space-time and its uncertainties, instabilities and confusions.
