      <link>https://www.peren-revues.fr/mosaique/1152</link>
After the Second World War, art is full of doubts, as the whole society itself. The question of the “killing of painting” merges with that of war-related killings, and what we can still say about it – or not. European and American artists experiment a new widespread feeling of loss. If some want a clear legacy of trauma in their works – as Olivier Debré and Jean Fautrier –, others evince the violence of war in a less obvious way – like the paintings of American and French expressionist artists such as Jackson Pollock and Georges Mathieu, or the works of the Cobra movement. Can we therefore still talk about a “history painting” or more about a painting which faces history – a painting which does not try to represent the reality anymore but which prefers to express the collective feeling of despair? </description>
