This article examines the spatial distribution of Roman grouped settlements within the civitas of Angoulême. The study addresses the visible contrast between the densely populated western areas and the seemingly empty north-eastern quadrant. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the author evaluates environmental, topographic, and historiographical data. Spatial analysis reveals that settlement locations were primarily driven by proximity to road and river networks and high soil fertility. Conversely, factors such as visibility or slope orientation had minimal impact due to the region’s moderate topography. A significant finding highlights historiographical bias: the lack of sites in certain areas may result from limited modern land development and institutional protection (ZPPA) focused on previously documented locations. Lastly, the limited evidence of continuity from the Iron Age suggests a restructuring of the settlement network, heavily influenced by the emergence of the Roman imperial road system.

The concept of heritage is understood with the practice of archaeology, as heritage is an integral part of our profession. Heres in Latin means heir, heredium, inheritance, patrimony. In fact, heritage in English means 'patrimoine' in French. Heritage is what the ancestors transmit; it is a polysemous notion, which covers multiple facets, like the numerous archaeological layers that accumulate over the years, centuries, millennia, as can be observed in Thérouanne. This heritage is multiple; it can be toponymic, stratigraphic or geographical. Rich, complex and fascinating for some, it can be heavy, cumbersome and bulky for others (developers, elected officials, certain inhabitants), even more so within a town. In Belgian Gaul, the ancient heritage is also present in our road system, our traffic routes. However, the circulation, the circulations, are also economic exchanges via the circulation of materials that we can find in Thérouanne, and in this case, lapidary material. These legacies and circulations have a strong influence on the development of the village today. That imperatively require a mediation, a transfer, a dialogue between all the stakeholders concerned because, in the end, this Legacy is our common heritage, a collective, inalienable good, which we can certainly destroy or ignore, but which we cannot repress or hide and whose fruit of our research must circulate and had to be transmit to the greatest number.
