However, the coming out of these famous smogs oxidisers and acid rains appeals environmental experts attention. Today, there are many technicals ways which aimed to eliminate this kind of pollution. Several methods of treatment have been published. Some of them are used in industries; others are at state of research and development. Therefore, many states have devoted statuary means to apply it. Nevertheless, a few number of those processes are not satisfactory, and great advances are still to achieve. However, ail these methods cannot be used in our conditions treatment detailed in previous work. Our study consisted in examinating possible treatments of combustion gas emissions, especially the nitrogen monoxide, derived from installations or equipments like road-tunnels, with very small amounts of pollutants (in the order of ten mg.m-3) and very large volumes flows (about many thousands of m3.hr1). The temperature and the pressure of this gas are in ambient conditions. A feasability study have shown in inefficiency of nitrogen monoxide to transfer in aqueous and/or organic solution in our experimental conditions, and therefore, the necessity to proceed in a preliminary oxidation to obtain a performant purification without generating a secondary pollution. Henceforth, we have developped a new technical way to NOx treatment consisting in preliminary NO oxidation to NO2 with O3 in gaseous state, preceeding an absorption-reduction of NO2 to N2 by sulfurs.Preliminary oxidation with ozone and sulfur reduction was performed in static mixers. At first, hydrodynamic study of static mixers leads to detail the experimental conditions which can enhance the mass transfer. Secondly, to improve the mass transfer, the oxidation in the gas phase was favorized. In order, the influence of the gaseous ozone concentration and the gas liquid contact time on NO2 elimination by oxidation-absorption were studied. Under our experimental conditions, the use of an oxidant agent to accelerate NOx transfer is apparently not sufficient. The use of reducing agent in solution such as sulfides is proved to be required to reach our aim. The two chemical mechanisms used have high reaction rates which allows testing operation with very low contact time (ɽg= 0,23 s). This important reactivity for sulfide with NO2 remains compatible with removal of diluted pollutants in air since S2- is a slow reactant with O2, allowing relatively low consumption in reactives. The use of low height static mixers (z= 0,115 m) is sufficient to obtain high NOx treatment rates greater than 90%.
