The POLAIR software with its methodological guide constitute an original approach for the health consequences assessment of a chronic or accidental point source atmospheric pollution. This software will be most usefull to professionals in charge of the health surveillance of environmental nuisances. POLAIR consists of two main parts: a gaussian atmospheric dispersion model of the pollutant to estimate the individual exposition and a detailled and commented plan of an epidemiological study. This first version of the software offers two approaches: a case-control or a historical cohort study. Other study designs will be developped in order to accommodate a wide range of applications. The software principles, along with the design of the analysis, are described in this article and illustrated by an example.
