Una questione totale

The revolt of Spartacus establishes itself as being in an army and it is able to prevail over the Romans on many fronts so that, although eventually defeated, it opens deep gashes in the consolidated imaginary of the Republic. The attempt of this paper is to think of these events as a response to the profound crisis of the institutions at that time, whose scope is still able to propose thinkable alternatives when any political hypothesis seems to be relegated to the impossible.

La notte della rivolta

The essay aims at verifying role and significance of the analysis of Brecht's work, Drums in the Night, within the Jesi's reflection upon the symbology of revolt. The analysis clearly shows how Brecht's text is crucial for Jesi's reflection on the possible aporias of a mythology of revolt.

Lo scacco mitologico della rivolta

The present paper deals with the relationship between the necessity of revolt and the bourgeois political mythology in Furio Jesi’s (1941- 1980) works. The article describes Jesi’s point of view on the presence of metaphysical and political backgrounds that overshadow any attempt to overthrow the existing relationships of power. This idea serves to advance the hypothesis that every political gesture, even if it is carried with a radical destituent intent, could embody a form of sacrifical posture capable of turning against itself and declaring the failure - or the conservative seizure - of the gesture itself.

Guerra, rivolta, rinuncia: sull’Antigone di Walter Hasenclever

Written between 1916 and 1917, between the battlefields of the First World War and the admission to a war psychiatric hospital, Walter Hasenclever’s Antigone provides an ideal ground – even if extremely problematic – to problematize the impact of the figure at the center of Sophocles’ tragedy on modern German culture and literature. Placed at an almost symmetrical distance between Hölderlin’s famous translation/rewriting and the Brechtian reworking of the years after the Second World War, Hasenclever’s drama hints at new potential meanings and transformations of the Sophocles myth, without succeeding in carrying out its potentialities. Beyond the historicalliterary categories, the aporias of this rewriting of Sophocles tragedy can constitute, today, the main reason for a re-reading of this drama.
