The essay questions the significance of these three occurrences in Pasolini’s editing work, starting with archive images from a “Mondo Libero” newsreel, which had ended its activity a few years before the film was made. The hypothesis is that the atomic bomb represents for Pasolini a confirmation of the opposition between history and myth and that it is an opportunity to experiment with a new cinematic form.
