Il sublime e il mostruoso

The contribution considers the beauty of Helen under the category of the sublime. This perspective allows us to consider that there is an impossible foundation to the Trojan War, a void that reveals that perhaps even in the Iliad a reason for war is missing. Euripides, in the tragedy Helen, radicalizes this trait, taking Helen to the realm of the dead, for a radical destruction-regeneration of her image.

Esilio, rivoluzione, solitudine

The contribution presents Nietzsche’s critique of Euripides and considers whether it can also be applied to the case of Medea. In particular, it tests whether a possible, paradoxical political charge of the priestess of Colchis, linked to the theme of exile, is not able to carry Euripides’ tragedy beyond the boundaries of the polis.
