    This volume presents a collection of papers given at the International Susan Glaspell Society’s 20th anniversary conference held at l’Université Toulouse-Jean Jaurès in December 2023, entitled “Susan Glaspell Past & Present.” Like the conference, the volume provides an opportunity for the scholars, academics, and theatre professionals who have been working on Susan Glaspell’s oeuvre for the past twenty years to take stock, to look back at the past as well as look forward to the future. The International Susan Glaspell Society (ISGS) was founded in 2003 with the expressed purpose “to promote the recognition of Susan Glaspell as a major American dramatist and fiction writer though the ongoing publication of high-quality scholarship and critical analyses of all her works, participation in national and international conferences, performances and public readings of her plays, and commitment to reprinting and teaching her plays, novels, and stories” (ISGS wp).     Martha C. Carpentier is Professor Emerita in modern literature from Seton Hall University, New Jersey, USA. She is co-founder of the International Susan Glaspell Society and has been Vice-President and President of the Society. She is author of The Major Novels of Susan Glaspell, editor of Susan Glaspell: New Directions in Critical Inquiry, co-editor of Disclosing Intertextualities: The Stories, Plays, and Novels of Susan Glaspell, also Her America: “A Jury of Her Peers” and Other Stories by Susan Glaspell and most recently Susan Glaspell’s Trifles and “A Jury of Her Peers”: Centennial Essays, Interviews and Adaptations.
