Résumé

The paper reflects on the relationship between Joyce and Bruno starting from biographical considerations, to take account of their shared concepts of shadowiness and infinity. Bruno’s influence on Joyce is clear in the critical writings, the letters and in his major works, Ulysses and Finnegans Wake. It is Ulysses that Bruno actually materializes as a character, as this paper argues, but it will be in Finnegans Wake that some of the teachings of the nolana philosophia will be used by Joyce in his attempt to write down the history of manking from the perspective of linguistic relativity.
