Coup de Théâtre is a double-blind, peer-reviewed journal that publishes themed issues on contemporary English-language theatre and performance art (from the 20th and 21st centuries). The journal promotes innovative writing and scenic techniques, particularly those in resonance with recent research, whether of French, European or international origin.
Frequency of Issues
Coup de Théâtre may publish up to two issues a year.
Editing of Issues
Permission to (co)edit, when granted to the requesting party(ies) – one of whom at least must be a member of RADAC in order to submit the request – will be carried out in coordination with Xavier Lemoine, our Publications Director.
List of Required Documents to be Included in a Publication Proposal
The proposals, to be submitted in English or in French, are to be sent to Xavier Lemoine (xavier.lemoine@u-pem.fr) and should be composed of the following elements:
- Presentation of topic and approach to the adopted + outline of overall organisation of issue (2 pages)
- Tentative calendar
- Language of publication (French and/or English)
Candidates are also encouraged to provide the following elements whenever possible:
- For issues devoted to the publication of conference proceedings or seminar sessions, the tentative list of contributors
- Sample contribution (in the original language or the translation version, or both)
- List of the reading committee members (specialists) for a double-blind review
- Technical details (word count, open-access illustrations, translation of a play at the end, languages to be included, etc.) Note: Due to budget restrictions, word count is limited to 75,000.
Accepted proposals must follow the Coup de Théâtre style sheet.
Financing and Distribution
The guest editor(s) will be responsible for securing the totality of funding for the issue’s publication (between 1000 and 1500 euros depending on length, if applicable image rights, copyrights, and other expenses).
The guest editor(s) will also be expected to participate in announcing the issue’s publication and relevant information to libraries, research centres, organisations, associations and institutions that may be interested.
Selection Process (schedule, etc.)
Proposals must be submitted 15 months prior publication date (within the yearly publication constraint). A second session can be organized depending on various necessities or in case of Special Issue.
- 2025 Second session: deadline for CDT # 39 (2025): January 29, 2024.
- 2026: deadline for CDT # 40 October 29, 2025.
Publication proposals will be reviewed and selected by five members of the Board including the Publication Director.
Selection criteria:
- The proposed theme must correspond to Coup de Théâtre’s research objectives.
- The subject has not been treated in previous issues of the journal.
- Requests to guest edit in collaboration with research laboratories located outside of France are particularly encouraged. At least one of the editors must nonetheless be a member of RADAC in order to submit the proposal.
- Proposals to publish material from events co-organised by RADAC are admissible.
