Spartacus. Réécritures contemporaines : de Django Unchained à La Planète des singes

In 1960, Stanley Kubrick directed Spartacus, based on a script by Dalton Trumbo and a novel by Arthur Koestler. The movie entrenched the figure of Spartacus as revolutionary slave, fighting against slavery. In this article, we study how the figure of the Thracian slave lives on in at least two contemporary characters: Django from Quentin Tarantino’s eponymous movie and Caesar, the ape leading the uprising in 2011’s movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
